Losing his civil war, the Dark Iron sorcerer-thane cast a spell to summon a champion. It worked. It tore through into the Firelands and pulled Ragnaros into the world, and the eruption shattered the mountains. The burning lake underneath you is not a lake. It is that tear, still open. Everything in the room walked out of it, including the landlord.
